The Understated Wedding Dress Tried and Tested by Our Founder

When our founder, Alie, began thinking about what she might wear for her understated town hall wedding ceremony, she realised she couldn’t find exactly what she had in mind. She wanted something elegant yet effortless - a wedding dress that felt special enough for the moment, but comfortable and easy to move in.

After searching without success, she decided it would feel all the more meaningful to wear a design by the brand she’s dedicated the last 13 years to building. Together with our garment tech Gabby, she created a dress that captured her vision: pared-back, romantic and rooted in real life moments.

The result was a dress that perfectly embodies AYM’s ethos of thoughtful design, timeless elegance and responsible craftsmanship. A strapless gown with a fluid silhouette and breathable fabric that drapes beautifully across the tummy - offering coverage where many women appreciate it most. At the bust, delicate boning, a silicone strip across the front and a thick, concealed elastic band across the back, work together to keep the neckline secure - while the triple layered bodice offers support and coverage without compromise. No last-minute strapless-bra panic required.

Most importantly, this design was built to move with you - to walk, hug, sit and dance in. Because every bride deserves to be fully present on her day, not distracted from meaningful moments by adjusting her dress.

Alie’s original version was crafted from deadstock silk, a beautiful but limited fabric. For our Bridal Edit, we’ve reimagined her design in our signature bamboo - chosen for its durability, softness and gentle stretch. It drapes like silk yet is easier to care for, breathable and versatile enough to wear again long after the celebration.

The first sample of what would become the Star Dress was worn by Alie on her special day - and it held perfectly in place. So when it came to deciding what to include in AYM’s Bridal Edit, we already knew this design had passed the true test: an actual wedding day.
